Dawn in the (not) Pink City – Jaipur…wood smoke, chai spices (the real stuff), marigold garlands, holy cows dotted about, flower and vegetable markets buzzing with colour and rapid trade, religious bells and morning worship. Jaipur is not pink, it’s full of old terracotta buildings and younger buildings painted pink to retrofit a description, which dates back to George V, and a mistaken belief that the city had been painted his favourite colour.
Regardless of British arrogance, the city is among the most vibrantly hued and painterly places I have ever visited.
India has some chronic refuse problems, which while terrible for the environment did supply me with some weird and wonderful found media.
