Winter’s Bones (Original)

I wanted this painting to feel cold but still ethereal and dynamic. A sense of how the natural world is pared back to its bare bones, during severely cold weather.

Since the end of 2021, I’ve honed in on experiments with collage on canvas. I use new and recycled media, including ripped-up pieces of my discarded drawings and colour tests, to household packaging and ‘drift-bits & bobs’ I find on my beach walks. I then layer ink and paint on top and then draw and draw, until It feels like I have captured a sensory response to the subject. I then use some metallic mediums to add extra life-spark, shine, and dynamism.
